The kids and myself want to go to the beach for a few days. We are leaving the Th headed south, the kids want to camp on the beach. Anyone got some suggestions? Somewhere along the Texas coast or maybe a little to the east. Oh the kids are all grown except the grand daughter.
Richard

Re: headed south!

I hope its not this weekend you are planning on coming down. We have "beach Party" weekend here beginning Friday and there will be an expected extra 160,000 vehicles on the island full of revelers. Traffic getting on the island will be horrible.

Check out Galveston.com for more info on it but I would strongly advise against a family vacation here this weekend rwise.

If you come on Thursday and leave on Monday you would do okay however, you will pretty much be confined to the State Park and the West end of the Island. Doing anything in town will be completely out of the question.

It will be the 30th - the 3rd, Thanx for the warning BTW. We'll be there early Sunday morning, and the kids, well they are grown, but we still like to do things together. The grand baby is another story though 20 months and counting. Sounds like some party, to bad I can't make it for that  ;)

My recommendation is to drive farther south to South Padre Isle.

Say what txwinner? Galveston is a kalidescope of activity. There is a great air show right down the road on Sunday and plenty of other things to do with the family like Moody Gardens, riding the free ferry, visiting Historic Downtown Galveston, riding the amphibian (sp), we have a great little trolly system too. You'll have a great time Richard.

Rod and I are looking forward to meeting you. :)

Re: headed south!

Well we did have a great time, mostly spent on the beach. Ladyfish and Mr. Ladyfish took the family and myself fishing. That Ladyfish can catch some fish now yawl! She had me worried for a bit that I was going to get out fished! Its that secret stuff she puts on her bait, I tell you it works. But I (finally) caught a keeper, so I am ok with her catching more fish than I did.

I can't believe how sore I got from playing in the water, wow, almost did to much! But at least we did not pull into the camp site and sit inside an RV the whole time we were there. Whats up with that? I can read a book or watch TV at home (yeah right like I watch TV). The grand baby finally got comfortable with the water coming at her and turned loose and played. All of us had a great time.

Lf, I want to thank you and Rod again for the fishing trip, the kids and I will be talking about it for a long time! Now I just have to try to work, man I did not want to come back to Tulsa!

Re: headed south!

rwise, our pleasure, we enjoyed ourselves too. You have a great family and your grandbaby is a little doll. :)

Outfishing the men is commonplace for me. ;) Well, most of the time. LOL I'm just glad your daughters had my back when it came time to smack talk and for me to pilot the boat. :p :D

Ron, take a long weekend. Just do it. :)

Re: headed south!

Ron you really don't have to spend a fortune to have a great vacation. I only spent about $400 on the entire trip, gas and all. Ok the kids kicked in a little, and I did not count that. But we spent most of the time on the beach, but then that why we went in the first place. I really needed to get out of town, with my divorce I needed to show myself that I can have fun without "her" around.

And I'll have to say I was comfortable with Lf at the captains seat! And thanx Lf, I have really tried to raise the kids to be good fun loving people who know how to keep our environment clean! I think I spent half the time I was there playing with the grand baby on the beach.
