Well, im brand new to the boating world and registered to this forum hoping to get some answers about a boat I recently bought. I got a good deal on this boat from a friend who was moving, he only had it a couple months and got in in trade along with some cash for his impala. Well, needless to say he didnt know much about it either except that it's a 1973 marlin. It has a 90hp evinrude and im hoping to find out exactly what model it is and any other information that anyone might know about it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Help....1973 Marlin?

It actually looks a lot like a 17' Tahiti. My guess is same bottom with slightly different cap. If it is similar it has 20+ degrees of deadrise (depth of V) and is pretty darn good in rough water. Would need to see a pic of the stern to confirm.

I'll add what I always do for people looking for info on old boats. The info is not really that important as the steering, gauges etc. are typically generic and used on many boats. Fixes are the same, failures are similar, so just let us know specifically what things you want to deal with and/or know about and we'll go from there.

Where you gonna use her?

Oh, oh, welcome aboard!!

KrwlRocks,

Hey that looks very similar to the boat that I have which is a 1973 Marlin Aquarious. I have done some research and only seen a few out here on iBoats. I believe they were made in Either Oregon or Southern Washington State. They are very similar to the Tahitis but with slight differences in the splashwell and under the bow. I am in the process of restoring mine as well and I have the original Hull Vin I'll try and take a look for the numbering when I head out to the garage.

Your boat looks very much like a Marlin Scorpian. I purchase one in Redding CA in 1973. It was a blue and silver metal flake with a 115 hp Johnson on it. It was a great boat. I kept it for many years. I will attach a photo of it.
