Well I took her out today for about 2 hours and quarter tank of gas and she's running like a champ. So the intake it was. Lesson learned. Drain the intake also on volvo 4.3s....

I do have a couple questions though.
#1, My speedometer gauge is not working. I do see the wheel in the back with the gear thing on it and it appears to be attached to a wire of sorts. Is there a simple reason to fix n trouble shoot the speed gauge system?

#2, is that my oil pressure hits the red when I'm just a little more than half way into throttle... is this normal?
I have done 4 oil changes with the last one being synthetic 5w30.
I can only assume that if the oil got warmer with the correct thermostat, maybe the oil pressure will go down since it won't be so thick?

#3, My temperature never really gets to the half way mark. It goes from cold to quarter into gauge then right back to cold. I haven't checked the thermostat yet but the mechanic said he believes it doesn't have one. (I bought this intake used with the thermostat housing already on it) so if the boat should run at half gauge then I probably need to check the thermostat but if it's normal or ok, please let me know.

#4, My gas gauge goes from reading what I think to be correct to empty then back randomly. While I had most everything torn apart, we went for a ride in the boat, I unplugged an re-plugged in the fuel sending unit wire and noticed a little bit of corrosion on the plug. We cleaned it and thought it was fixed but it kept acting up. Not sure it I need a new fuel sending unit or just rewire.

Just some questions on my quest to many years of happy boating..Thank you all for any advice you might be able to help me out with.:)

Definitely check the thermostat. I would just go ahead and replace it.

Ayuh,.... It's probably a mechanical gauge, with a pitot tube on the transom,....

Electronic would have a paddle wheel,....

GPS, an antenna,...

THIS ONE HAS THE PADDLE WHEEL IN THE BACK THAT MOVES AS YOU GO DOWN WATER. HOW CAN I GET THIS THING TO WORK?

THERE IS ONE WIRE OUT OF THE 3 THAT IS BARE WITH NO COATING. IS THIS NORMAL OR DID THE WIRE GET FRIED AND LOSE ITS COATING???? ITS BARE FROM FRONT TO BACK SO I ASSUME IT IS SUPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT. SORRY FOR ALLL CAPS....

I would post these questions in the electical forum. You might get more help there instead of adding more to this thread. I use my phone as a speedometer on my boat with a free app.

Are you using Starter Bolts? You should not need loctite or lockwashers on it.

They look like starter bolts to me. Not sure but don't want to keep going threw that agin. The starter is very hard to get to unless you remove the engine top cover and that sucks......
