Hi Folks
I have a Aq271 5.7 v8 with no spark. I have +12v at the coil but no spark. I believe the engine has electronic prestolite ignition. I think the fault is with the distributor.
Is there anyway of testing it?

Thanks David

The prestolite distributor is just a points type.
The points need to open and close as the rotor turns. If they are not doing that then adjust so they do.

Make sure the coil has 12V while cranking. Once it starts it would have about 9V

If they are operating correctly, then may need the points filed or the condenser replaced.

That one is no longer made. Has been replaced by a few others like Sierra 18-5239

Autolite makes one also Pertronix

Most likely that module has gone out, and needs replacing

The stock dizzy is crap.

Spare parts are more than a whole dizzy

I have one on the shelf that I have been listing on CL and fleabay on and off for 5 years

Get either a Mallory YLM or a Delco voyager
