i have a 1983 bayliner capri, 85 force 85hp o/b, when i bought it the shifter was broken. we found another one[used] and switched it out and took the boat out on the lake, the cables came loose and we had to fix it on the water. now here is when the trouble began, the boat ran GREAT,[forward] plenty of power and everything,[forward] but when i got it home i correctley put the cables back where they were suppost to go. now i dont have barly 50% throttle forward. i noticed theyre were other issues such as carb kits, fuel pump kit, water impeller, lower unit seals, all needed replacing and they have been. now shifter cables are supposed to adjusted but i sware a pontooncould pass me while at full forward throttle. plenty of compression, carbs adjust right. sitting still it will run as open as you want t too, but moving it wouldnt kill a fly if it hit the windsheld. DOES anyone have a clue to what could be wrong?????:facepalm:

Sure sounds like the cables are reversed to me. I've done it. Do you have reverse?

Firing on all three plugs. And yes I have reverse which I might add is alot more powerful. I read the sync your carbs post. Im gonna make sure they are all in sync and double check spark and make sure all wires are connected right and go from there.

Sounds like something in the shift linkage, especially with the reverse being more powerful. Maybe on the lower unit when you replaced the impeller?
