didnt work... i have replaced impellor, thermostat and riser, im now getting water out the exhaust flaps and plenty of raw water through the intake but the bastard still gets hot??? should i sink it? i think i should sink it

mercruiser 260 v8 think its an 85 model... v drive shaft

This is the second thread on the same subject. Either close out the original thread and direct people here, or don't start a new thread.... Very confusing....

Also, please include your engine serial numbers in all new threads you start. Saves people having to troll through a dozen or so of your old threads to find them....

Here they are for those who want them....

one of the engines is 1984 (6703143) and the other is 1986 (0A608492).

Have you verified that the engine is actually getting hot with an IR temp gun? Have you had the heat exchangers cleaned in the last 4 years? (should be done every 2 years)....

just from the temp guage climbing after running, in sydney... could the exchanger be blocked?

sorry cant figure out how to delete the other?
no i dont have access to an IR gun i havnt had the boat that long but i would say it needs doing is it difficult to diy?

Its not hard to flush the exchanger. I would remove it from the boat. Flush both the af and raw side.

Some people use a strong acid. (*safety* gloves, glasses, outside not at the kitchen table)
Some use a gentler cleaner and soak it longer: vinegar, clr, or barnacle buster.

A rifle cleaning kit works pretty good on scrubbing the inside of the water tubes.
