Is this and easy fix? i have never worked on boats before. more of a car/ bike guy. should i just tear into it and pull the foot apart or what? i have never seen the inside so idk whats in there. i feel like it cant be to difficult but im looking for opinions. anything i should look for after i get in there? looks like 5 bolts gets the bottom of the foot off and then what. any advice would b great cause im probably gonna tear it apart 2morro. thanks in advance.:D

Re: Help Drive Oil Leak

K, I took the foot off tonight and i think i have solved the oil leak. pretty simple inside, but i have a question. right behing the drive shaft was a hose approx. one inch in diameter. i dont see how i could make absolute sure that it connected. while putting the foot back on i tried to make sure it lined up and slid in place. my question is, before i take it to the lake - what is that hose for and what if it is not connected properly? what is the worst case scenario? i think it is on there because the hose was pretty stiff and seemed like it would have no choice but to slide on. is there any way to make sure it did connect propery? thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Help Drive Oil Leak

well let me try to better explain. mercruise sterndrive. alpha. 4.3 liter. basically i pulled off the lower drive assembly and found the drive oil leak. i think that problem is resolved. my question is when i put the lower drive back onto the upper assembly, there is a hose coming from the upper assembly approx. 1" in diameter. it is located directly behind the drive shaft. it connects to the lower drive assembly. how do i know it connected properly? seems like the only way to put back together was to lift lower assembly back on and hoped the hose lined up. seems shady to me. sorry dude i am a boat rookie. any help?

In the Adults Only section are links to All kinds of this info, with Pictures,.. Manuals...
There's several things that must be perfectly aligned to reinstall the lower unit...

Re: Help Drive Oil Leak

tks. i just looked at the service manual. i think i am good to go. so this is the water intake tube i am assuming to cool the motor. i still dont really see how (while assembling) to be sure it aligned properly but i ran the boat at the house - hooked to the hose. it goes in and out of gear fine. i assume if i were to take the coolant hose off in the engine compartment where the water would be entering the engine, and water is coming through - then everything should be good. is that a safe assumtion?? the rest seemed pretty cake. i dont see what else could really be wrong. any thoughts??
