Re: Help Fixing Stripped Block Threads any Ideas

A Guardsert would of worked. Its like a Helicoil but instead of being like a spring it is solid. The Guardserts come in various wall thicknesses and materials. I have a lot of experience using Guardserts. The only problem the holes are too boogered up now. Sometime trying to fix problems like this on your own with little experience makes them worse. Unfortunately I think you have reached the point of making it worse. Even to TIG the holes up the holes would need to be cleaned thoroughly (no remaining oils or JB weld) to achieve a good weld. :(

you have already screw up a good motor. take it to a pro, get off your darn wallet and fix it correct, or just go ahead and haul it to the scrap yard. get him to fill it and tap it for you.

If the motor had been taked to a pro when the studs were broken in the first place it would have been relatively easy to salvage.

The shop where I get some work done, when it is beyond my ability, has a sign:
Labour rates
$60/hr
$80/hr If you want to hang around and watch
$100/hr if you want to help
$120/hr if you have already tried to fix it yourself. :)

You have a real problem there. Forget any kind of epoxy. Someone talked brazing. If they mean brass brazing, forget that too. Your dealing with a aluminum casting here. I doubt if those holes can be filled by welding, drilled, and retapped, and ever have the strenght to take the proper torgue.

I have been a welding instructor at the Illinois college for over thirty years and let me tell you, that has to be cleaned and "TIG" welded and done right. It can be fixed but not by your average welder. If you were close to me I would charge you at least a hundred
