I apparently have 1979 115 in-line 6 merc. It has been determined that I have a weak fuel pump and it needs a rebuild. According to some my motor should have two fuel pumps on it and my box of spare parts that came with the boat has what looks like two fuel pumps attached to fuel hoses. Unfortunately I cannot find anything like that on the motor. I have found on the left (facing the motor from the boat) the fuel filter with what looks like a fuel pump assembly beneath it which I found in my manual (but things are so general in there for many sizes and years.). There is only the one. What gives here does anyone know anything about this motor ad can please help me.

There are many web sites available that offer exploded views for your motor. A few that come to mind are Doug Russell Marine, BAM, Crowely Marine. Do a Google search you'll find them. :)

Re: help fuel pump confusion continues

Thank you to evryone who had help with this problem. Today I got lucky....and you know dealing with old motors that doesn't happen to often. When I was getting ready to remove my fuel pump I accidently knocked the feul line leaving my in-line filter and it simply fell off. It seems it had worked its self loose and was not under enough pressure to supply the engine with fuel at top speed. I couldn't believe this could be the problem but I fixed it, took down to the lake and went out for a run.....a top speed. It really ran great. Hope that is my problem solved now for good.
Thanks again everyone.
Once in a while the merc gods are smiling...touch wood.
