Help. Garmin 182 and Bluechart CD

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 182. I am looking at options for Maps. Looks like I can get the Chesapeake Bay region on a preprogrammed card for about $125. Or I can buy the Atlantic CD and unlock the desired region.<br /><br />The thing that is confusing me is I'm not clear on whether or not you get one region included when you buy the CD. Some say you do, some say you need a compatible GPS with unlock code.<br /><br />I'd like to be able to view the maps and plan routes on my PC also. It looks like the CD is the way to go.<br /><br />Maybe someone who has the bluecart CD can explain the process and point me to the best deal.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Mark

I think you are taking the best route, Mark.<br /><br />Once you unlock the portion of the CD you want to use you can view and plan trips on your PC, then download the routes, waypoints and maps to your unit. You can also save them on your PC, along with any you upload from the 182, for later use.<br /><br />I bought an extra blank card for my 276C so when I switch from auto navigation to fishing hotspots use I merely swap the cards. That probably wouldn't be necessary with the 182 because it has more resident memory already.<br /><br />BTW, is that a 182 or a 182C?

Just a 182. Got it on close out for $300. When you buy the cd, do you always get one region un lock?

Yes. Don't forget the PC data cable so you can upload/dowbload from the unit ...

Yes, you are purchasing the MapSource CD which includes one unlock ...

Thats actually a great price, but not in stock. Seems like every place with a good price, is sold out. I guess I'll just have to wait.<br /><br />Thanks for the help
