Re: help help ! 2000 75hp elpto
It must be built into people's DNA that the first thing they do when an engine doesn't run right is to replace the fuel line and primer bulb. That is rarely the cause of a poorly running engine. What do the plug look like? One fouled and two normal is all it takes to kill performance. That engine runs surface gap plugs and it is sometimes hard to tell whether one is carbon tracked to the point where it doesn't fire correctly. Replace them. They are cheap (in the grand scheme of things). An engine needs fuel, air, and spark and it all needs to happen at the proper time. Miss any one of those and it won't run or it runs poorly. If someone has mucked with the carbs, linkage, or timing, it may be the engine needs a link&sync procedure. Take someone with you and when you experience the problem, have them squeeze the primer bulb several times quickly. If the engine perks up and then dies again, you have a fuel delivery problem. Suspect is the fuel pump. To prove or disprove the fuel tank pickup, try running on a different tank. Have you checked the fuel for water?
