I have a 1963 or 1964 Aristocraft Funliner with a 110 Mercruiser. The previous owner and I both have tried to find the serial on the OUTDRIVE with no luck. So then since my original boat didn't have tilt or trim, I bought an additional boat, I think a 1968 Thunderbird????? What ever it was, looked like a smaller version of Skipper's boat. Anyways, I bought it for the 120 Mercruiser and the Outdrive that looked identical to mine except for the fact that it had power tilt. I grinded paint down to nothing under the missing stickers and nothing there. I want to replace all gaskets and impeller. Judging by the years of the 2 boats, is it possible to know what they are? I know that the splines are different that go in to engine coupler, but externally the outdrives look and measure identical. The power trim cylinders are different than any others I have seen by the way that the pivot bushing on the boat side is on top of cylinder and a couple inches down the side, not on the very end like all others I've seen. Is that a way to figure out what I have?
Thanks for all and any help you can give me. What's the easiest way to post a pic on here and I'll try and snap a pic

Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

ya can find some info from the adults only sticky at the very top of the i/o forum. this link is for mercrusier.
the attachment may help too. 63 110 is mercruiser 1. 64 is a 1a. 68 120 is mc-1. the chart is self explaining.
ya need to get mercrusier s/m #1. whatever ya got. service manual #1 will be the best info as for servicing the drive. for mercuriser 1, the s/m says the sn is under the sticker. either side. on my 72 mc1, it was truly there. albeit, very lightly stamped.

ya can barley see the number stamped into the drive. the pic is of the port side. the drive pictured is a mc1 and is 8 or 9 years newer than your 63 or 64.
hope that helps a little.

Here's a pic of the outdrive out of the Aristocraft. I will have to put in some more effort on the left side to find serial. I just measured, and both driveshafts. Are actually the same length (8") and same spline count (17). I don't know why I thought they were different.

Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

Looking at the casings, the newer one has some fin pieces broken off and I know my original bottom half has damage to the front side and has jb weld or something similar done to it. So I want to use my upper and newer lower if possible. I need to send them out to get sand blasted. I'll probably just send both completes to get blasted then take then apart and swap and paint them. So I'm wanting to remove all outdrive parts from back of boat, straighten, fill unnecessary holes, etc. and paint the backside of boat and reinstall outdrive with all the new seals and paint, water pump, etc. It seems like a lot of gasket seats are universal between some alphas and mr's, but want certainty before purchasing. Thanks for all your help.

So are you saying MY pic is a mc1 or the one you posted? Thanks

You DO NOT have a MC-1, it's either a 1A or a 1A-EZ. The MC-1 drives did not have the mechanical lock down.

Did you download the ID and History link? That lists all the differences in the drives.

They're too Old...

Find a donor boat with a later model 120 or 140 (anything later than 1983 would be the best choice) and drop it into the boat of your choice....

Something newer, from the mid 80's or newer would be your best bet, but you could go back as far as the early 70's if you needed to.
You just want to stick with the MC-1 drives, and nothing earlier.
That is for engine and drive, when you start mixing the 60's stuff with the newer stuff, things don't fit like you would hope.

Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

might be worth it.
i'd be contacting AristoCraft. see what hey gots to say. a funliner is an mostly fiberglass boat. no wood stringers i think. imho. this makes it more worthy than some old boats to pursue some kinda mod to make it hip again. bummer about the 110. i don't see any ready available parts source either. but just think of it. maybe a v-6 mercrusier w/ alpha1. wouldn't that be pretty hip? pretty fast too i bet. max weight would need to be considered i'd think.
i was talking with bill one time and he told me he'd put a 350 in a ninteen once. a shade *** heavy, but she screamed @ near 70mph if i remember right. crazy.
if i was gonna get another boat. a funliner would be high on my list. albeit, i'd opt for an o/b version...
good luck.

So I can't even get a water pump or impeller kit and gaskets for this for now? I just want to get it out on water this summer and enjoy it then tear it apart and repair everything like gel coat, windshield, etc.
thanks.

As fas as anything bigger than a 4-cylinder, I'd love the extra power but I don't want to lose the seats next to the engine cover.

A 140 is physically the same size as a 120... The major difference is in torque. All the customers I installed 140s into old 120 boats were stunned at the difference...

Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

Ok. Tomorrow (today after I get a couple hours of sleep and wake up) I will try and identify both drives I have with the comparison chart. I just find it hard to believe that I can't get something else to work. The mounting bolt measurements are soo close(4 15/16 and 5 1/16") that I would think with a little mill work I can bolt a newer one up. I know the water, exhaust, shift linkage passages need to align as well. But from what I've seen in pics, the biggest troublesome part is the different length yoke driveshafts that go in to engine cover. If that's the biggest problem, can't I swap the yokes, etc??
Thanks again for all the responses. I appreciate it. I just want this thing to work. And when I search for a 1A impeller kit, you're right, I didn't see anything.

Ayuh,... In that case, a Miss is as good as a Mile....

The only way to do what yer tryin' to do, is Up-grade the Whole drive, 'n transom assembly...
