Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

A local marine shop says they have an Alpha Gen 1 with outside and inside transom mounts, hydraulic TRIM cylinders, pump, hoses, etc of a 1988 boat for under 300. It has been pulled off the boat for 5 years. But an outdrive will cost me another 800+. For over 1000, I'd rather get another boat that runs and comes with a trailer and I can part out what I don't need. But he also says he has all the seals and gaskets for my current outdrive. I think he said it is the same impeller that mc-1's used.
BOATS ARE EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you'll make your money back, but there is no way of knowing how good (or bad) the parts on the boat you buy are.

Correct, but that is about all that's the same.

Re: HELP. I CAN NOT FIND THE SERIAL OF MY OUTDRIVES and I want to order parts ASAP!!!

At least with buying a boat that runs and drives I know it works, compared to one that has been off a boat for over 5 years and he doesn't remember how good it was. With buying a new boat, hopefully a 3.0 or a 140, I'll be upgrading to a bigger and more popular motor. And also, won't I have to change all the steering cables and things alike? I know I've said it like 10 times already and I apologize, but I REALLY just want to get it on the water with what I have for now. I want to get my feet wet, pun intended, into the whole boating experience before I drop thousands on this boat. And want to make sure this boat handles and fits my family well before a large investment.
Thanks again for everyone's help.
Does anyone have the part numbers for an outdrive reseal kit if I want to replace impeller and I already unbolted it from gimbal? Is there a kit available with everything that would be included when replacing impeller? (Impeller, upper and lower gaskets, gimbal to upper casing gasket)

If the impeller is the same for almost all the out drives, what's the chances the entire water pump kit will work. GLM 12130 kit describes it as mc-1 1969 and older. I spoke to GLM and they think it might work. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks!!!!!

GLM is right up there with Mallory, keep that garbage off your engine and drive.

If you want aftermarket, go with Sierra.

Thanks Don, I will do that. On amazon.com when you look at GLM 12130, it lists Sierra 18-3321 and mercruiser 46-64141a11 all on same part. So would it be safe for me to order the Sierra part for my 1a? Or should I wait and pull it apart to see if I need just impeller? How often does the entire kit need replaced?

I would wait and see what it all looks like in there and decide what needs to be replaced.

On both my boats I did the entire kit the first time since I had no history on when it was last done.

Then the next change was just the impeller.

It more to do with the conditions the pump has been subject to than time. Some pump last a long time when they breath nothing but clean water, others will be totally destroyed on the next time out from a service because some moron thought it was a good idea to start the engine and warm it up before putting the boat in the water, just to 'make sure it works'...
