Re: help I think I have outdrive problem
Fishermark , You hit it again I just removed that cover and holy crap those to gears are practically sanded to a smooth finish and there are metal shavings everywhere, Hmm geussing it is shot I just have a question on top of the original what has caused such an issue? thanks again to everyone who has politly tried to help out a newbie
Well, you got two options: 1. Get a new outdrive, what size is your engine, the gear ratio is important. You can try ebay, but be very weary and make sure auction states "in good working order," that way if it doesn't work, PayPal will give you your money back. I got mine on CraigsList, I took quite a gamble, but it paid off. 2. Replace the gears, but you will have to make sure all metal filings are out of the lower unit as well.
Depending on who you find to replace the gears, you might be better off buying another outdrive.
