Help Identifying Boat?

I picked up a little aluminum boat and trailer the other day (for next to nothing) but it has absolutely NOTHING on it for identification. The trailer is a Dilly Trailer made in 1971, but the boat is probably much older.

We're going to strip it down and refurbish it a bit for duck hunting, but I'd sure love to know what it is.

It measures 13.5 ft. from stern to bow, and about 13 ft. at the waterline.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Help Identifying Boat?

Thanks Home, but that's part of the reason I'm askin' -

Seems the DMV has a different boat on file for the registration number on the side. The guy I bought it from is not on record as owning it... so, I have to start fresh. Since there is no nameplate, no ID#, I have to take it to the DMV office and get an ID# assigned. But I have no idea what brand to tell them...

Thanks,
Dave

tell them it's a Montgomery Roebuck.

Seriously, while I don't advocate putting false info on government documents, the registration process for small old boats is upside down. If they will issue you an ID number on your report of make and length, I see no harm in an educated guess--simply because there is no way it could matter. Try Starcraft.

Can't tell you what it is but am pretty certain it is not an Alumacraft, Mirrocraft, Meyers, Lund or Sea Nymph. Maybe a Crestliner or Fisher

So what about the owner of the registration number? What did the DMV say about that?
Maybe you were sold a stolen boat.
You already bought it from someone that was not named on any of the paperwork.

Jeeperman: I think what actually happened is that the number on the hull is incorrect, or the info in the DMV's computer is messed up and it's actually the right number. My guess is that the guy I bought it from never bothered to register it and lost all the paperwork... Looks like maybe he has a little drinking problem, 'cuz I think he was already sauced when I went to look at it at 10:00 - AM!

At any rate, I'm going to haul the trailer and boat down to the DMV office and get it all straightened out... I'll post the follow up afterward.

I just thought that maybe someone who knows these types of boats really well might be able to look at the style and ID the make right away. No biggie.

Bonz:

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at vintage Crestliner catalogs (late 50's early 60's) and the lines of this boat look very much like the late 50's Crestliners... It's not identical, but it's VERY close. Especially the view of the stern.

I would say it's close enough to call it a '56 Crestliner Seaman 14... looks very close!

Thanks again ~ :)
