A good mule is better than a horse anyday. I have been trying to find one. Well I have found them, I just can't afford one. They call them Mammoth Jacks. When you get one thats been trained decent and has some hours under saddle it is the best ride you'l ever find. The ranch bos hit it right for you.

I don't know about the ride being different, without much to compare it to. But it was MUCH better than I thought. The long muscles along my back that run parallel to my spine are sore, everything else it not too bad. And YES! I remembered the ibuprofen, thankfully.

I wonder what breed that mule was... he sure was strong.

At the time of my original post I was really worried about the horse the owner had in mind for you. While many sound horses are perfectly capable of toting a man of your stature around, few are capable of it in that type of terrain under an inexperienced rider.
Not a problem for that fine animal.

I hope you enjoyed yourself and stay with the activity. Learning to ride well, the care and experience is relaxing to the point of being almost spiritual.

Yes, I have to agree, when you said horseback, I was feeling for you and the horse. Mules are great and a much better ride in the hills.

You look good up there. :)
