Usally its just a matter of all those things coming together at the same time..shift, water pick/up, driveshaft. Just keep trying, but don't force anything

Re: Help, Lower Unit Fitting ? Urgent

I can not get the lower unit in.

I put first gear and when it is more or less in, the neutral go in because the shift rode do not get into the hole and stopedup.

In the reverse gear it also do not work, more than 3 hours now trying and it do not work.

Is their some special Trick or position ?

the bent section at the top of the shift rod needs to be facing away from the driveshaft. Take the spark plugs out and have someone turn the flywheel so the driveshaft will go in easily.

Yes, This is what I am doing all the time, it?s like an "Z" up and it looks in the side you are tellign me, but it do not goes into the hole which is on the top with the gumm.

It is just a little difference between the hole and where the shifting rode is stopping, but this small difference top.s above and but the shifting rode in Neutral or Reverse.

I don?t anderstand what I am making wrong, it was so easy to take it out and now a big problem for me.

I hope that somebody alse will answer and give some goot ideas or a Trick.

Thanks a lot.

Do you have the lower cover off? It is only [edit] four screws and a couple of clips to get it out of the way. 10 minutes +/-

As ezeke says, are you realizing that the driveshaft splines have to be lined up? You have to turn the flywheel or propshaft while lifting the lower unit to get them lined up. It takes two people to be done properly.

Re: Help, Lower Unit Fitting ? Urgent

Thanks for the Help.

But the problem is not the Drive Shaft, it is the Shifting Rode.

We are two persons doing it and cant do it. and sometimes we are three. It is crazy

The Problem is that it do not want to get thru the last hole up ( THe hole where it have to come out down the carburators where you put the screw in.

This is the problem, it do not go into this hole it comes out a little bit away from the hole and this is my problem.

Hope you can help.

Many Thanks

It is much easier if you remove the split cover under the engine. You can reach the shift rod with a flat screwdriver from under the cover and guide it - See the picture:

Thank you for the picture, it is exactly the same shifting rode. and this is my problem.

I will in one hour start again and take away the cover you are telling.

Than I hope that I will manage it.

Which Gear have to be in Neutral ? Forward or Reverse or doesent metter ?

Re: Help, Lower Unit Fitting ? Urgent

With the lower unit off take a flashlight and look up into the mid section. If the shift shaft passage looks like it's partially closed -- you may not want to hear this -- there's a problem with the lower motor mounts.

What we find is that salt and/or corrosion gets built up behind the monts and actually puts enough pressure on the mid section to move it. The result is that the shift shaft hole gets closed off.

Seen it many times.

Ok, Thank you very much to all of you specially to Ezeke.

It is DOne. I have take out the lower cover and the access what a lot of better.

Than I could see that he hole is not Round and that it is just one position to go the shifting rode thru.

Last Question, I have test the Motor with the Water Ears on, and the water comes out, on a small Hole in the Rhight side and also at Two hole on the Back of the lower unit looking down, is that Ok, I never have look it exactly before.

Ok, and also is comening out Up on the control pipe.
