I have a 1989 Evinrude 150. It has been slowly giving more and more problems on cold starts. It has gotten to the point where it takes a good squirt of Ether to get it going. Once started she runs like a champ.

Does this sound like a choke issue? Or is it the fact that i store the engine in the slip with the motor trimmed up?

Thanks

Well, it sure sounds like a fuel/air mix at cold start problem, Matt.

First, lose the ether. It is deadly to 2 strokes. Use fuel premix.

When you tilt the engine down, do you prime it with the primer bulb?

Have you observed the fuel enrichment (choke or prime) operation when trying to start? What do you see?

I figured it out. It was an issue of me not priming the bulb all the way and not pushing key in for 10 sec before starting. Bowls were empty. Thanks for the advice.
