Seen this rig today and would like to know a little about it. But first I need to know who made it. The name on the side of craft is Check Mate, nada list this name under manufactre but they do not apperar to make any models that small. Internet search seems to pull up this name under larger racing boats but once again nothing this small.

It is 13 feet long and about 5 feet wide. The first three of the vin are CHS and in looking at the rest of it I would guess it to possably be a 1985 model but do not know. There did not appear to be any other identifying plates on it.

The trailer would make a decent trailer for my hovercraft with a little modification, But first I would like to now a bit about this hull as they are a package deal.

OK I cannot make up my mind. After further investigation it appears that Charles Hankins made wooden boats. Can anyone help me here?

1973 checkmate MX-13 rated at 80hp commonly fitted with 50-55hp. Hull is 325lbs. Originally seated 4. Keep in mind all this was before the coastguard got involved as heavealy in rating boats.

Thanks guys I was getting tunnel vision in trying to identify and would not give up some conclusions I had come to. Bubbakat (not sbn) ;) your info forced me to look deeper at this company and it is one of there models, Thanks.

Checkmates were very popular around here a few years back. Most were used for running up and down the rivers very fast with big Mercurys hanging on the back. I've only actually ridden in one, but as far as I know they were good boats.

Re: Help Me Identify Manufacture

Thanks Guys, I have decided not to get it because I really didnt want the hull I was more interested in the trailer. The hovercraft I was going to use it for only weighs 325lbs but have decided I want larger wheels on the trailer. In otherwords get a multifuntion trailer rather than a dedicated trailer. The hull is in good shape and the price was right but to Destroy the hull would not be right and I have decided I would not spend the money to rig this boat. Kinda a shame though cause it is a nice little craft. Pluss it would be toufgh to sell without a trailer.
