Does it matter if the carb is auto and not marine? Here is a pic of the pump:

EDIT: Picture removed. You need to resize your pictures to half that size or just post a link only

The fuel line must be a metal line from the fuel pump to the carb.

I agree it looks like you have a lot of issues, but the line from the pump to the carb doesn't need to be metal. Rubber hose is allowed per Coast Guard regs, it simply needs to be the correct type of hose. It needs to be marine type A1 with the appropriate barb fittings.

And yes - your carb needs to be marine. Again, this is a safety item, not a "need" to make it run right. Basically to make it a marine carb, anything to do with possible leaks routes the fuel back into the carb instead of the bilge. Instead of trying to make an automotive carb a marine one, it is easier to simply get the right marine carb.

Edlebrock does make a nice marine carb:

But if you will compare it to yours, it doesn't have nearly the number of vacuum ports.

Fishermark- do you know the part # of that carb? I think the one I have now is 600cfm, I found the numbers 8867 on the top of it. I think there another number on the side of it but didn't see it.

Another question to all. Does the throttle cable require a return spring? My opinion is no,what is yours? Also, the throttle cable bracket seems wrong and is held in position with a tie wrap, what is the correct position or bracket for that? Please see pics for reference.

Thanks

The one I have pictured is a 600 cfm Edelbrock 1409 - marine version of the performer carb. I believe the one you have currently is the Edelbrock 1406.

I verified it yesterday, its a 1406. I am going to get the 1409 you showed and then make other changes required. Thanks to everyone again for giving constructive criticism.
