Trim ram leaks after trim down is complete - leaks right of the top like a soda can that was shaken up! so looks like a rebuild is in order. But i can't find part numbers. Could someone point me in the right direction? All i've found has a 2 ram system.

Thank you

?You are saying it doesn't have another trim cylinder on the other side? The 1975 parts list says it should have. And the starboard cylinder looks slightly different than the one you pictured. Could be a replacement, I suppose.

I'll go ahead and say this - I have no recollection of one on the port side - but i took that picture early this AM before i left for work. So now you've got me questioning myself.

Confirmed - home now - no port side ram.

the bracket has a spot for it - but nothing on the motor to connect to

Oh no doubt.

Wow, that's weird. Looks like it has been broken or cut off.

Quick inspection of the pump looks like there’s a cap near the outlet.

So so maybe it’s a jury rigged stock system. It does lift and lower fairly easy - and I’m not even sure if I could hook another ram up. But I’ll check some parts diagrams today.

Is it a Power Trim system or just a Power Tilt? The power tilt systems for those engines of that era, usually only had one Ram. The port side looks like there never was a Ram or attachment on the swivel bracket

I've only ever heard to it referred to as "tilt and trim" so bluntly i'm not sure which is which.

Assuming trim is for the minor adjustments after the engine is down and tilt is for major up and down, then it is just a Tilt system. there are 2 buttons not connected to the control box for up and down.

i've got the engine kinda pulled apart (carbs off, LU dropped and tonight taking the head off) or i would get it up and take pictures of the swivel bracket.

I'm hoping i can either get a replacement ram, or rebuild the one that is there. Seems to have a pretty good leak from the top seal.

Either way its just getting added to the list of repairs!

It's a hacked-up system. The pump is like what is used on Tilt & Trim. So is what is left of the bracket How effective it will be is open to question. It might work as trim with only 50hp, I dunno. It was designed with twin rams for much higher horsepower.

Use it as TILT only system !!

meaning try not to fiddle with it for fine tune adjustments? just use it for up and down?

why do you say that? not that i don't believe you - just curious

Looking the parts diagram; it is a butchered trim system

A tilt system was quite a bit different

Agreed.... The bolt on bracket is a two ram setup. This one of controversy is "modified" whereas the cylinder does not look familiar at all.

Another strong suggestion.... Get away from the urge to use silicone. Silicone and boats/engines is a No No! If grease or Bombardier 3M Product #847 (Sticky Substance Sealer) which may also be listed as Scotchgrip 847, part number 776964

Thanks - i normally don't use silicone - just quicksilver marine grease where needed and 3m 4200/5200 for any holes or sealing that needs done.

and yes - it is a butchered system for sure - but that diagram doesn't match what i have. my "bat wing" has a hole in it that the trim ram is going into - not a bolt on the outside. I guess we'll call it "custom"? if you can link me to that parts diagram it would be great - i can start searching part #'s and maybe get this back together.

This boat is new to me - by that i mean i gave some guy a very small amount of cash, crossed myself and then hit the highway home. All in all it's not in terrible shape. But the engine needs a LOT of work before i'm going to float her anywhere. I'm keeping an eye on eBay for any factor trim systems, but i'm not really sure if i would be able to hook it up correctly or not considering the "custom" job.

Good luck with this " custom " system.-------Get this motor running properly before you worry about a trim system !

The way I figure it, the "bat wing" was scavenged off a V-4 motor, which had your type of cylinder attachment.
