That would be the bell housing, and to remove it you remove the two hinge pins it swivels on. One is barely visible in your picture. Then you will need to remove the bellows and shift cable to get it the rest of the way off.
The bellows and shift boot are glued on using bellows adhesive, weather-strip adhesive, contact cement,etc.the only one not glued is the exaust bellow.
