Sorry to start another thread i cant for the life of me find my last one? heres my question PLEASE help a newbie out.

This is the MAT that i have, i was planing on using 1 layer for tabbing on the transom followed by one complete cover on the transom, followed by one layer to tab the stringer and 1 more for a complete stringer seal. Is that enough? or do i need some sort of cloth to? and if so what weight? (transom is 2 pieces of 3/4 PLY laminated with PL and Glued to the hull and filleted with PL, stringers are going to be bedded and filleted with PL.

I really hope someone can help i have read through like 100000000000 Posts trying to get a word for word answer and cant seem to find one thank you all very much!:)

Re: Help Me Please

I'm definately not an expert, but I would suggest using a biaxial cloth for the tabbing. I'm pretty sure that biaxial is head and shoulders stronger than a mat. The mat is fine for sealing things up but I know I felt more comfortable using biaxial for strengthening my transom. Plus, since you opted to lamimate and fillet with PL instead of resin, I would think you'd be better off adding some more strength. I'm not saying the PL was a bad choice by any means, it's just not rigid like resin and glass. If you are using polyester resin, use biaxial with mat backing stitched to it. If you are using epoxy resin, you do not need the mat backing Hope this helps and good luck.
