Re: Help!! motor may be gone you tell me

I have a motor i can buy for 200.00 but the 3rd cylinder head has a compression reading of 60 the the rest of the cylinder have a reading of 160 the owner said. I can take the new head (4 months old) off my old motor and put it on the motor im going to buy hoping that the bad compression was from a bad gasket or vavle on the cylinder head of the motor im buying what do you guys think ?>??

Re: Help!! motor may be gone you tell me

If the Lack of compression is Because of a head problem, That'll be Fine..... The heads Should be changed in Sets though.. There are many Little differences in chevy heads, They Might be the same, Or Maybe Not.... You could Always have the bad head(If it's the Head) rebuilt....

Alignment tools can be found at ebay, for a reasonable price... About $70. There are Always some to be found...
A manual can also be found there, or here... Try to find a Merc. Factory Manual.... The others are Really Lacking....

After recently using a merc alignment tool, I question if the broomstick is an upgrade or not. Perhaps we should be selling them to merc by the truckload?

After using the merc alignment tool, I used a old driveshaft to fine tune the alignment, and then verrified again that the alignment tool didn't notice the difference.

Anyway, I do recommend you get the alignment tool. You don't even have to align the clutch on a car - but I'll get into that another day. You may also want to use an old driveshaft as a second measure like I did..

-- Joe

I found a place that sell tools used ones that after your done you can return them for a 70% refund not bad so I'm going to buy the alignment tool for 60.00 then return it. I think i know what i can now do with the broom stick handle for being cheep. Used tool for sale and return for a 70 % refund 800 349 2628

Re: Help!! motor may be gone you tell me

ok i took my outdrive off with in in forward gear which i found if you forget you can just put it in foward before you put it back as far as a alignment tool i cant see why i need one if i drop the motor back on the motor mounts which are 2 bolt they are about 3/4 in thick in theory the motor never moved its back where i started and the alignment tool thats just to make sure the motor is straight correct?. So i could you a broom handle file at the tip to make sure it fits in the fly wheel hole. why do i waste my money?? on the tool. One more thing on the mounts do i take the whole mount out the 2 bolts the fasten the mount brackets to the boat or just the 1 inch nut and lift the motor up 3 inches and then out and whats the hardest thing when putting the motor back together for anything.
