Welcome to iboats!

I would suggest adding additional information like year make and model of the boat your talking about..... We don't know if it's a 14' runabout or a 40' yacht:confused:

Welcome to iboats!

The items you list as being dead are all almost always connected to the motor's electrical system, except the speedometer, which is usually not electrical at all. There is usually a main fuse or circuit breaker for this system. But, as Rick said, some details about your boat would help us help you.

Also whether it a yacht or canoe no one can tell you if it has fuses. They should have at least one coming off the + side of the battery but who knows. I agree with NYBo though for all those to go bad at once points to a single problem.

More info will help but while we are waiting I might suggest looking at a ground connection behind the dash. Usually all black wires connected to a single post and a heavier black wire that will eventually connect to the negative side of the battery. I loose nut or corrosion can put a bunch of electrical out that worked earlier in the day.

+1 on the ground. The ground for the gauges are likely all connected. The boats I have worked on had one ground that ran from gauge to gauge to gauge. I'd start there. Pretty easy fix if that is the problem. Good luck!

Guys, if it's a ground problem, it's the main ground for the motor, not at the instrument panel since the tilt & trim doesn't work either. But the starter also wouldn't work in that case. It sure would help if Dewey would check back in with some more info.

Maybe Dewey is out of town! Anyway, regardless what type of boat/power plant he has, 12 volts need to make its way up the harness from the engine to the control box. From there it gets directed to the gauges via the ignition switch. If the engine actually cranks, that says 12 volts is at least available at the switch and the dead gauges may be due to the 12 volt feed being interrupted. If the engine doesn't crank, a break anywhere along the way means you have dead instruments, no trim and no starter since 12 volts is not getting to the helm. Yes - ground can be an issue but that single failure would not affect both the trim and instruments as they are totally separate circuits.

I have 2000 yamaha motor,2000 skeeter 15" the motor cranks great, the trim operates. I cleaned the corrosion around the terminal working towards my console looking for loose wires checked the wiring on the fuel tank clean and good connection just no electricty to the console sorry for the lack of info.
