I am installing a new head gasket on my 2000 johnson 130 (J130PLSSS). Anyone have instructions on Torque specs, sequence and whether or not RTV is used. Does anyone know where to download a manual? Thanks.

Do not use anything on gasket. Is the mating surfaces clean? Is the head perfectly flat? Did you run a thread chaser in block? As far a torque sequence goes, work from center out! If memory servers me correctly 3/8" bolt = 18 fpt' you might want to double check that with someone else. You don't want to do it again. BTW, use light oil on head bolts or anti-seize pryor to install. good luck and post back your results.

OK, I downoloaded a Johnson manual that covers a wide range of years. According to this manual they say to use a 1/16" strip of RTV only around the cylinder head water jacket, but not around the thermostat opening at the top. However, I did note that when I removed the old gasket there was no sealant present. I would like to get this right the first time. Is it possible Johnson changed the the use of sealant somewhere alone the way?
