Help needed to find info on motor...

I have a 9.5 hp Rude that was given to me. All I know is it runs. I had it on a 12' v-hull now it is sitting up. I want to service it but I know nothing about it. I can not find the year, model, etc. Where can I look to get this info.

Also, what would be the best repair manual to use and where could I find it? Could not find anything on Rude's website.

The name plate is usually on the mounting bracket. On some models, it's on the motor itself. If you can't find the plate, you can also check through a site like this: http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1=lje08lkfq831jpgkecbm6tmf44&catalog_id=5&siteid=1
Check parts diagram for 9.5 models (which appear to be made from 1968 to 1973) and you may be able to determine the year.

if that doesnt do it I know some of the 9.9 and 15hp johnsons (so i spose rudes would too) have the model number on a soft plug on top of the engine block. Don't know about the 9.5s

The welch plug with the numbers should be on the top of the engine block.
