Boating forum newbie. The boat is a 1992 regatta with a omc 5.0L. It was starting but not actually turning over and running before I hauled it 6 hours, I was almost sure it was just bad gas because it wanted to run when given starter spray. And now it's not even trying to turn over. I replaced the starter solenoid and the slave solenoid. All connections and wires seem to be good, cleaned the connections and the cable ends. I think I may have gotten the starter wiring mixed up when I put everything back together. The big red wire on the slave solenoid is going to the top post along with the red from the battery, and the other large wire from the slave solenoid is going to the bottom post on the starter. I am not a certified mechanic but i've always thought I was decent but I can't figure this out. What could have gone wrong while towing the boat. It didn't get any crazy bumps or anything. I can hear the slave solenoid clicking, and I took the starter to autozone and it passed the bench test.

Sorry for the long winded explenation but I guess my question is is the starter wiring I explained right? If it is what else could it be, maybe take the starter out and turn the key to make sure the motor isn't locked up, but I just can't imagine how it woulde get locked up while being towed.

I'm starting to think my motorcycle is a good enough toy but the boat was a gift from my mom and I really want to keep it in the family since I grew up on it. The boat only has like 525 hours on it.

Re: HELP OMC Starting Problem

Welcome aboard! Have you looked in the Adults Only sticky at the top of this page to find a manual? It will have a wiring diagram in it.
