Hi Folks<br />In rebuilding my 16’ center console, I’m now ready to fill in some holes in the new transom that I had to drill to clamp it together. I also have some assorted scratches from just noticeable to fairly deep gouges that I will need to repair before painting.<br />I was going to use Micro balloons mixed with rosin ,but thought I would ask you folks your opinion.

Microballons are good, use epoxy resin rather than polyester.<br />Make sure the area you apply the filler to is clean, I use acetone or a proprietary panel wipe to make sure it's absolutely grease free.

epoxy holds 5 times stronger, doesnt stink, isnt flamable, and is easier to work with. but it is 4 times the price....

Will this work well on small scatches as well as the big ones.<br />also...<br />can you feather micro ballons and epoxy out for for a invisible repair for repainting?

Epoxy won't fall out after a few months! Yes it'll work just as well on small scratches as large ones, and it feathers out really easy. You might want to use something like WEST Systems fairing and filleting compound instead of straight microballoons.

Amen for West Systems. Be sure and buy the pump dispensing kit...just one squirt of A and one squirt of B and mix in a cup, it's that simple. Oh, yeah, you don't have that nauseating polyester smell either. As for fillers, they're 410 fairing compound (filler) sands super easy.
