HELP!!ooking for a used part

my father in-law has a:
Chapperall Deck Boat
its a 232 sunesta
deck boat with a 5.0 mercury cruiser 240 hp he thiknks the drive shaft going through upper and lower assembly is going bad. Does anyone know where i can get this part for a low price

That's 2 shafts. 1 driveshaft in the upper box and another in the lower box. They spline together in the bottom of the upper shaft (inside the upper box). Why does he think the shaft is 'going bad'?

Just How was the diagnosis arrived at,..??..??

If the drive is any newer than the mid-80s,..
I doubt it's that shaft, unless it's been removed from the drive,+ Inspected...

they said it froze up while they were going down the lake. he said he wasnt going that fast. it was right after the winter and his wifes brother saud they didn't winterize it properly.

Forget about what "He Thinks it is", You need to get the drive disassembled to find out what happened exactly before you buy any parts. I doubt that shaft broke on it's own, if it did, it would be the first one. There are a bunch of other things that could have gone wrong, and who knows, it may not even be the drive.
What happened????? How did it quit?

i cant take it apart right now i'm in afghanistan. hes not as mechanically inclinded as i am. so unfortuanetly for him hes going to have to wait until i get home for me to rip it apart.

As for the drive,... It's Gotta be torn down, Before ya go orderin' Parts....
And,...
Depending on the damage found,+ who's rebuilding it,...
A SEI aftermarket replacement drive from iboats, is Cheaper than the tools Required to rebuild an old Merc...
