Re: Help please !!!!!!!!!!! 2.3 omc question
I recently bought a boat with an OMC Cobra 2.3 Liter Ford. There is no drain plug. Where the plug goes, there's a 90 deg connector for the flare nut on the dipstick tube to connect.
I removed the dipstick bracket retainer bolt near the upper end (9/16" socket), then loosened the dipstick tube flare nut with a 5/8" open end wrench (tried a flared fitting wrench, but it won't fit, too tight). The nut came loose easily and the oil started flowing as soon as the tube was lifted out.
I didn't try it, but the 90 deg. connector may rotate 180 deg so it points down and drain the oil into a pan placed in the bilge. On mine there is room. On other boats, may not enough room. (I was just verifying if there was any water in the oil pan (no, there wasn't) and not draining the oil, yet)
This looks like a fairly simple way to drain the oil, if a dipstick pump is not available.
