evinrude 9.5 1973 modle number 9322b. I took the handle off and I dont kno if im off a tooth or not where shoud it be in start position just opening the throttle plate any info would be great or if some one has a pic of where the cam meets the cam follower in the start possion would be even better or even a pic of how the gears would mesh on the tiller handle?

Usually there is a line on the cam that is where the cam follower should just touch as the throttle is advanced.Usually the throttle labels on the tiller are very vague and are more a reference point than actual throttle position. When slowing for shifting always try to be as low as possible.

Using this qoute saves me typing Thanks steelspike

Your handle only can go on two ways, look at the gear, its how it is on right now or 180 degrees around, that wide spot on the gear stops from installing anyother way.

Looking at the parts diagrams at marineengine.com..there's a vertical mark on the timing cam and the cam follower roller should touch that mark just as the throttle plate begins to move,ie...the same thing Steelespike said....you might find that if you move your start position so the timing cam is a little advanced as the throttle plate begins to open, it starts easier...what has to happen is this...at wot.. your throttle plate needs to be perfectly horizontal and the the cam follower needs to be at the highest point on the timing cam..again..as Steelespike said..those markings on the tiller handle are for reference only..just pull the choke on..twist the grip as far as it'll go in neutral..and when it starts, twist the grip back down to a lower rpm...really, it's a lot like starting any two stroke
