Re: HELP PLEASE!!!! montgomery ward sea king

Welcome to iboats.

Ward's did not make any boats and they were just sold under the wards name. What is the beam of the boat (width) and what type of steering does it have? We would need to know more about the type of hull ........... a picture would help

The serial number does us no good since it is an older boat.

Post a question on Fiberglassics.com, and look at their databases. My guess would be to stick to 40 HP or below.

Upload photos to a site like photobucket or picasaweb.

Then you can copy and paste the url.

The boat is probably rated for 50-60hp, fiberglass rigs are usually rated for a bit more than aluminum in the 14'-16' range.

For now stick with a 40.There are Sea Kings at Fiberglassics.
No numbers match yours but compare the specifications/demensions.
Some 15s are rated for 70 hp. if you can match demensions maybe you can go to a 60.

Re: HELP PLEASE!!!! montgomery ward sea king

My 14' Seaking is rated at 50 hp based on the hull plate, so I would say 60 would be your max on your hull, depending on what you want to do with your boat, I would bet that 40 would be just fine, that is what I have on mine and it does everything I want, including towing tubes and fishing. I did see an interesting set up the other day, it was a 15 seaking with twin 40's on it, I bet that sucker runs quite fast over the water!
