For some reason my power trim is not working. I can hear a clicking sound at the relay switch but no other motor noises. I checked the relay switch and it looks clean.

Also, my engine is stuck in a high position (I'm stuck at the lake on a windy rough day!!!). I read I can lower the engine down by finding the plastic plug but my question is if I lower it this way will it stay at the position and can I drive?

One more thing is there by chance a trailer switch?

I have a 1992 Mercury 90 hp.

Thanks,

Sounds like a solenoid problem. With the cowl off, try to trim it down. You will hear the click come from a solenoid on the left side of the engine (if you are in the boat looking @ the front of the engine) You can jump across the posts of the solenoid that is clicking to lower your engine.

k

It could be the brushes in the trim motor.Try tapping the top of the trim motor while pressing the switch .that's what i had to do to mine , wound up replacing brushes because they were to far gone.

Re: Help Please! Trim problem

I tried to jump across but nothing happened. I was able to lower the engine by loosening the screw and letting the engine fall. (little too low for my liking though but much better than the way it was).

I will try tapping the top of the trim motor while pressing the switch to see if that does anything. Stupid question but where exactly is the top of the trim motor..are you referring to the actual trim unit?
