Re: help - possible spun prop 15hp johnson 1992

A guy at a marine shop said to try trimming up as well. That's where the problem is/was.

With my problem, I first tried trimming up (prop further from the boat & higher) one notch, which made the problem worse. Trimming down one notch from neutral trim is what worked. The problem apparently happens at times & not others because of wind differences, wave differences & most of all by weight & the distribution of it. Apparently, in my case, I have always run on the verge of being trimmed a little too high. I have always noticed that, when planing around tight curves, my motor wanted to rev up some. That is apparently because my prop was riding a little too high & losing some contact with the water.

Yeah that's exactly what it is dependent on - wind/wave/weight distribution. You are the first one I've found to have experienced this problem after scouring for weeks on google unable to find someone with the same symptoms. The last time I took it out it the wind was calmer, and I had a pretty heavy load probably the heaviest so far by 20-40 pounds more. I think the biggest factor was the wind and wave conditions probably the two combined at the right amount could be sucking air down the keels somehow reaching the propeller. A jon boat is so tiny compared to some of the waves out there some times. We took it out to Anna Maria Island on Labor day which is right on the gulf and were surrounded by strong currents, waves, and other larger boats lol.
Anyways, hopefully this will help someone else with the same problem as it is apparently not that common. I have my boat listed for sale here in Tampa but may keep it as a lake/river boat. Thanks again for all your help.. :)
