The glass Is the strength but the lack of uniformity in the design will cause you problems in laying the glass. Like I said it may be fine, just not the way I would have done it. Trust me I have seen a LOT WORSE!!!!

Ok, heres the picture of the stringer location in the bow. You can see that there is a bend as it meets the keel at the front. Not a big one but enough to get me thinking.

Any ideas?

I don't think the 3/4" will have a problem makeing that curve. If it does use two pieces of 3/8" and laminate them together.

The tape is fine, but you MUST use CSM first. The cloth will not adhere to the wood with out a CSM backing. It's always CSM then Cloth then CSM Then Cloth. Always!!!

Re: Help removing outboard tub

Guys,

just took to the transom with a hole saw to install the bungs. I oversized the holes and filled with poly resin mixed with microballons to fill up. I put dams on both sides to hold in there. I am then going to hole saw the actual size of the bungs so there is a circumference of resin to seal the transom.

I used about 4% MEKP in the mix and when I removed the dams the resin had cured but has gone a off yellow colour and cracked. With a quick google I found that the exothermic reaction got too hot and this is the result.

Any ideas on how to do it right? I will remove this resin and clean it out and maybe only 1% so it goes off slowly?

Finally all stringers and bulkheads are in.

Any ideas on how to fix the bungs holes as in my previous post?

Re: Help removing outboard tub

To make a mix to fill the holes use resin, Talc (Baby Powder, not micro ballons) and tear up some 1.5 oz CSM mat into shreds and then cut into very small pieces with scissors and mix the fibers into the mix. Use a 2% MEKP ratio and you should be fine. Put the MEKP in first, Mix well for 2 mins, and then add the Talc and the fibers and mix until thick like Peanut butter. You can use Really Fine Sawdust from a sander instead of Talc if you want.

Gave that a go and still getting small cracks through the filler. It looks to be shrinking as it sets and causing the cracks.

Could I use a syringe and fill the voids so it seals up? It is only for the bungs to go through to protect the transom?

If it's cracking you're mixing to hot. Cut back on the MEKP just a bit. If the cracks are small I think since it's just for the drain tubes you'll be fine.

I am only using 1% so I'm not sure you can go less? I will fill the crack with the syringe and see how it comes out.

Re: Help removing outboard tub

A questions gents, I have calculated that I can get about 90l under the floor in the boat. I have just gotten hold of a 150 opti and ned more fuel storage. Has anyone got any ideas for fuel storage?

I was thinking about those boat seat boxes, I could get maybe 40-50 litres in each side box, with them draining into the underfloor tank (in series).

Also I cannot put a tank near the transom due to the knee braces I have incorporated to strengthen it.

Heres a drawing of what I am thinking.

Wrapped glass around the rounded transom to seal it off. Next I will mfinish off the gunnel at the back.

Floors finally in, nice and solid. I forgot to glass around the corner so sand off the gelcoat and get it done.

Reattach the gunnels. Once set sand back and level off with some bog.

This is the pod I got made. 6mm Alloy where the motor bolst on and 4mm elsewhere.

Milo,

Good work. Looks great so far. I would suggest adding much more glass to your gunnel cuts, inside for sure. This is a stress point and you need lots of support there. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Greg.

have put 4 layers of csm on the outside and two underneath the gunnels.

I have finally finished the transom.

Re: Help removing outboard tub

Ok, long time since the last post and a lot has happened.

I have finished the hull, fitted the engine and steering, and am currently on electrics.
