I have a mid nineties (don't know the exact year, but has a red wiring plug type) and I'm looking for all the controls and wiring harness for it. What I want is this kit, but want to use a side mount control box, not the Binnacle type boxes. It's my understanding that the "Binnacle" controls designate top mount style? The ignition key switch in this kit is on a separate mounting plate, which is what I prefer for my setup, so will I still be able to use a side mount box with this even if it has a key switch installed in it?

Your red plug using motor is compatible with control boxes that were the same for like 20 years. I'd just be searching for a used red plug control box and be done with it.

There are two basic side mount controls both with and without T/T switch. One type is surface mounted with a key switch. The other is mounted behind the paneling with the lever only on the outside. This one needs the dash mounted key switch. You will find all on Ebay.

Re: Help selecting controls for my Evinrude 110hp

I THINK he is asking if he can find a side mount control that all the wiring goes to EXCEPT the key wiring...which he wants on a seperate plate ....

which I dont think they make...but can probably be easily rigged...

most of the side mount controls i have seen have the key on the stern facing surface of that control...

if you pulled that wiring out, i doubt it would reach very far away from the control itslef with out splicing

now that a assumes i am right about wanting a key seperatly mounted from the control

Thanks, this answers all my questions. I'll go with the concealed control so I can mount my ignition switch on the dash. Will the wiring harness kit work for my application?

Conceal mount controls up through the 95 model year should plug right into your engine. (the famous "red plug" control boxes.) You can use a 96 and up contol box, but you'd have to get some adapting cables from Bombardier. in order to make it work.

its impossible to tell. we dont know what the boat layout-console looks like. if you mount the control close to where install the key and the wires have a clear run underneath what ever it is you are mounting them on....them sure.....and it depends on how long the distance from your control-key spot is to the motor...... they make different LENGTH Harnesses!!!

i have always wonfdered how a concealed mount control looks mount? I am guessing only the lever stick up above the surface...unlike a binnicle mount which has about half of the control above the mount surface

This is actually going in a brand new, home built boat. I can build and mount the controls as I wish, so I suppose I can figure something out.
