So heres the story... i bought a dirt cheap boat that i knew had a million problems including the transom. It's a 1973 caravelle with a 70 horse chrysler. Got the motor running... re did entire interior. STarting redoing transom. I saw that I have no stringers.. IDK if thats because they rotted or because the boat came like that.. I just lifted teh top deck (after taking the motor off) and i was going to start replacing the plywood core then covering it in an aluminum plate. Will my motor fly off without stringers?

So what is the Deck Sitting on?? Based on a couple of other threads here on the forum I'm pretty sure you're supposed to have 3-4 stringers under there.

I think there are only two... at least that I can see where they used to be and the fiberglass is all frayed. I think they rotted to nothing in the bilgfe and are still around under the deck? is that possible?

BTW the deck has no soft spots and doesn't flex anywhere...

Yep, You will need to remove the deck in order to grind the OLD glass encasements off, replace the wood and RE-encase them in glass.

I can't get away with just reinforcing the rear with wood and aluminum plating? how do i go about taking the floor out...? I have the top deck mostly off so the boat is like a shell..

Also, I don't know much about fiberglass work...

Anyone think I could try to slide a new stringer in part of the way without removing the deck then glass over it? anything to avoid removing the deck...
