Help w/ Reassemble of Water Pump L-Drive

hi all.... i cannot for the life of me find the pictures i took of my water pump as i was dissassemblying it.

i was wondering if anyone could tell me where this seal is suppose to go and anything else i might be missing. I am pretty sure i have everything...

YEP! Remove the pump body. Just inside the top will or should be a groove for that seal to sit in. It snaps in just as if it were an O-Ring. I just did a 1994 outboard lower with the same pump and that's where it went.
It's not much of a seal and I can't figure why Merc decided to put it there but that's the way it goes.

I still cannot seem to find where this seal fits.

only place it looks like it would fit is in the top of the pump housing... there is a little slot that i can stuff the seal into.... but it is very loose once the seal is in the groove which makes me onder how it would seal anything? this leads me to beleive that it cannot be the correct spot for the seal.

<----- seal can slide into that little groove... but i definately dont remember taking it out of there.... i dont think i was that high at the time of dissassembly.... could be wrong though... :facepalm:

Like I said: Not much of a seal. It made me wonder what Merc engineers were thinking. Anyway, once the pump is assembled, the ridges on the impeller seal it and prevent water loss through the top
