Help ....what is this for.......

I just bought a 1988 Sea-ray Seville 18.8 ft. It has 3.0L for power. The blower was dead so I replaced the blower with new 4 inch blower and ducting. Everything works now but my question is on the motor cover there is a plate about 4 inches across and it is round and unscrews but there is nothing behind it, what is this for? Any clues........Ted

If you have a engine fire you open that hatch and shoot your fire extinguisher through it.This way you don't have to open the whole hatch. Probbly a add on, I don't think boat manufactures started putting them in till a few years ago.

I think you are right,the carb. is right there. It looks factory installed....many thanks to you...Ted
