I need some help with a 50hp Force outboard. I recently bought a boat and just need some general help on how to check the fluids such as gear case oil. I have looked for the 2 plugs like I have seen on most sites, but can only find 1 plug on the gear case. Can someone help me out?

Re: Help with 1998 50hp Force Motor

The plug you see on the gear case is the drain plug. There is one more plug on the upper section of the lower unit which is your vent. First remove the top plug and then the bottom one. Allow all the oil to drain out and make sure you have no metal shavings or water in the gear lube. If the gear lube checked out ok then refill by squezing gear lube from the drain screw(bottom screw) into the lower unit untill you see oil come out your vent. Then replace your vent screw with your gear lube tube still in your drain. Then quickly replace the drain screw.

35775.jpg#3/4/5/6 The very bottom of the drive is a slotted screw screw. That's the drain and where you fill.Closer to the cavitation plate is a slotted screw that's the vent.
Check that after you use the boat.Look for water and metal shavings.
The gas needs 1pt of oil to 6 gal of gas.More will cause trouble so will not enough.
Get a manual(factory's best) J
