Help with 9.5 hp fuel line size 1964

I just bought a very clean 9.5 hp 1964 outboard. It had not been run for 5 or more years. It ran well but needed at least a new fuel pump impeller. I decided to change the fuel lines to make sure they were alcohol resistant. The line I removed from the tank to the fuel pump is larger than the line from the fuel pump to the carburetor. The OMC parts catalog shows the line is part number 310118. The diagram shows that the part number from the tank and to the carburetor is the same part number. When I went to my local (only) marine dealer he sold me Evinrude/Johnson Genuine Parts part number 0303617 and said that was just one line and that the other line was smaller according to his microfiche and he did not have the other line.

Are these lines different? What is the correct size or sizes? I am at a loss as to whether it makes a difference.

I beleave they are different sizes, I usually go to my local auto parts store for fuel line.

5/16" coupler to pump, 5/32" pump to carb.

Yes they are different sizes and you need both as one isn't make to fit the barbs of the other. I always cut a little chunk out of the middle of each line (not stretched) and go to any auto parts store and buy the appropriate size and length for quite a bit cheaper than a marine shop. Thank you for your help. I did remove the lines and take them to my NAPA store and received the right size internal diameter line. What was interesting is that they told me that they had lines that were alcohol resistant and lines that were not alcohol resistant. Since I believe that all gasoline in Kansas has ethanol, I found the existence of non-alcohol fuel lines interesting. I was glad that I asked for alcohol resistant lines.

I know that all fuel up here in IL has 10% ethanol. With that little amount of alcohol any fuel line will work fine. You would only need alcohol resistant lines if you were using E-85. (85% Ethanol)

That is a surprise to me. I would have thought they are all AR by now. Was there a price difference? Rick.

I don't know about a price difference. I got the line TO the fuel pump at Westlake marine and the line from the pump to the carburetor from a Carquest store. The NAPA dealer I first went to did not have the AR line in stock. He gave the AR line a specific name I don't remember. The price was about $2.00 a foot.
