Hello All,
To start, I searched the threads and could not find what I need apologies if I was not vigilant enough
I have a 1983 Bayliner with an upgraded ignition (Pertonix 2842) bought new and a flamethrower coil (1.5 ohm)
I followed the instructions, but it will not start. I have recieved a troubleshooting chart, and the only thing that does not check out is the coil I was sold is 1.5 ohms and they recommend a 3 ohm coil. I called pertonix, and they say it is fine to use either coil.
I am at a loss, the rep I spoke to suggested removing the ballast but I cannot find it, the only thing remotely close is a wire on the alternator labeled " resistor' I have no idea where it goes. Any help would be very appreciated

I would toss the pertronix and go back to points myself.

with constant power to the coil + take a jumper wire from the coil - and rapidly touch ground. your coil should fire every time you remove the wire from ground. if you have spark there and none with the coil connected to the pertronix, then the pertronix isnt switching to ground

use a match book cover (folded in half) or a set of feeler gauges and rough set the points. your gap should be .018 on a filed set of point contacts. if that works, go rent a dwell meter
