Help with chrysler 9.9hp no spark!!

Hello,
I am new to this forum and need some help from the experts here! I recently bought a chrysler 9.9hp which appears to be a late 70's early 80's model.
I am not too familiar with outboards and after tinkering with it a few times I noticed there is no spark to either spark plug. I did the usual "small engine"
maintenence like cleaning the rust off the coil and flywheel but I still get no spark. How do you test/know if the coil or stator is bad on one of these
motors?

we need to know a little more like the model and serial number...on a plate under the cowl ....did you take the flywheel off and clean the contacts ?? That would be your fist step ...then we can tell you how to test the coils with a digital meter
