Just bought this motor. The PO had a piece of tape over the round black air cover on the right side of motor. Looking at some pics on the web it eppears it was a round black cover with a 90 degree elbow venting somewhere. My question - is there a foam type of airfilter inside? Is the elbow just a vent?

Thanks!!

Re: Help with Gamefisher 3hp

Hi mshick. I have a little 3 hp Gamefisher too. The part you're talking about is just an air intake/silencer for the carb. It's just an empty passage way. Mine has long since fallen off, so I just put a black 1.5" PVC cap in its place with lots of holes drilled in it to allow for plenty of air flow. No air filters on boat motors 99% of the time because no dust on the water.

Perfect just the info I was looking for. Thanks alot KFA!! I just bought a 2 inch od pvc cap I wil scew on and a little L shape elbow they use for irrigation. I will drill a hole in the side of the pvc cap and glue in the elbow sorta like the original I guess. Does this sound ok?

Thanks!

Re: Help with Gamefisher 3hp

sounds like a plan. I'll try to post a pic of mine. While I've been meaning to get a nice water-cooled vintage 3 hp some day, I can't seem to let go of my trusty little air-cooled Gamefisher (Tanaka). Yeah, it's loud, but it's never let me down and no impeller to change!
