I have a 1986 "Nifty Fifty" 45hp merc. Recently removed the oil injection. Was mixing at a 6:1 ratio. Now at WOT it only reaches about 1/2 speed and also has trouble starting. I have been told that the mixture is probably wrong. Can someone tell me what the mixture should be. If it helps, the serial number is OA99923.
Thanks

Not knowing the backround on the motor, I cannot help you with the running problem. But I can tell you that the mix is 50:1. 1 pint of TCW-3 oil per 6 gallons of gas...You may want to post a new topic regarding your lack of power at WOT and give some details...

that is WAY to rich of a mixture! Check to see if you fouled your plugs( you probably did) and mix at 50:1 like rick said. check to see if you have spark on all 4 cylinders. The engine can still sound like it is running great even though it may only be running on 2 of the 4 cylinders.

What is your starting procedure? do you pump the bulb until its hard and advance the trottle atlittle? if not try that while holding in the primer as well. it shou8ld start right up.

Then do a search (on here) for "decarbing" or "decarb" and flush the gungie out of your engine that you know is there with all the unburned fuel that occurred at that very rich mixture. Don't forget to insure that the plugs are clean when finished; either new ones or clean up the old. Sea Foam does the decarb, Berryman't Chem tool spray can clean up your plugs; both available at NAPA, Autozone, Tractor Supply and other places.
