Help with Hull

One more question. I've revamped the decking and upholstery, only to take it out on the water and the engine overheat. But thats not my question, this is.<br /><br />I have a lot of standing water where the engine compartment is. ( I have inboard/outboard...its where the bilge pump is too) I know you're gonna get some water...but this is ALOT. Not sure if I have a hole in the hull somewhere or if it is the plug. (It's old and probably hasn't been replaced in a very long time). Now I looked everywhere on the hull and can't find a hole. What do u all think?<br /><br />thanks

Sometimes it's a case of getting down on your belly and having a real good look with a torch.<br /><br />Could be from - the plug, the outdrive seal, the bellows, the manifolds, the raw water inlet hoses/pipes, a hole in the boat, etc etc etc.<br /><br />You could put some water in the bilge and see if anything leaks out - but not too much, you don't want to drown the starter.<br /><br />Your very first post mentioned rotted stringers, fixed?<br /><br />Aldo

We completely rebuilt the deck including the stringers, yes.<br /><br />What price range would this problem be to fix (worst case scenario/best case)<br /><br />Thanks

Let's say it's the plug seal - about $5.00 should see you right. Let's say it's a crack in the hull - maybe $5000.00 to fix??<br />The fact is it's impossible to answer. Need to narrow down what's wrong first - sorry.<br /><br />Aldo

I know it cant be a crack in the hull, I've had a lot of people look it over and we can't find anything wrong with it.

Could it be a leaky raw water hose from the outdrive?

Since it is an inboard/outdrive, I tend to lean towards the bellows, or the gasket/seal between the hull and the outdrive where it bolts to the transom. The bellows could be starting to fail. Also, have you ran the motor and watched for seepage from the cooling system? And no, you really should not be getting any water in the hull if everything is okay and it isn't raining out.

We've run the motor and it overheated in the water (UGH!) Probably bad water pump/hose, not really sure but we haven't looked for any leaks that way. How much would it cost to fix the bellows and how would I go about doing that? Thanks
