Help with manual trim please.

Here's another newbie question. <br /><br />I've got a 48SPL with a manual tilt/trim and I don't know a thing about the manual trim. I've been using the boat with the motor locked all the way down, assuming the trim is fixed. Is this true? Should I be doing something different? If so, is there a post I can read on how and when I should adjust using a manual trim?<br /><br />As always, your help is appreciated.

Its kind of trial and error for each boat/motor combination.<br /><br />If you raise the motorup all the way and lock it in place, you will see 4 or 6 holes with a bar running thru them.<br />Remove the bar, place it in the next set of holes. Try the boat out. Then move it up to the next set and try it out.<br /><br />If you raise it up too far, you will hurt the holeshot and ventilate the prop while turning. Not high enough and you will decrease top end speed.<br /><br />Try a few different settings and see what works best. Most motors work well 1 or 2 holes up from the bottom.

Rosce or anyone.<br /><br />Right now the trim is set on the second hole up from the bottom (there's an empty on closer to the boat, and four or five higher). If I go to the very bottom one, will the boat plane faster?

It might, but it could reduce your top speed too, it will push the front of the boat down at speed.<br />But try it, you will need to try many of the positions to see what works best for your boat and how you load it.

When on the lake hotdogging, the wife and son are usually in the back of the boat with me. <br /><br />If I'm pulling a tube, would the lower position (nearest the boat) be helpful for getting me on plane? Had some issus with both the wife and son in the tube and my small motor (larger motor envy going on here).

You have to keep your weight distributed properly no matter what engine you have on it for safety and handling purposes. Experiment like roscoe said and find the best settings for what you are doing with it at the time.
