I have a '98 johnson outboard 90. When I press the down button the motor runs. The motor is resting on the lock so it will not go all the way down. When I press the up button I get nothing. I have changed out and swapped the relays. And this happen whether I press the switches on the motor or the ones in the boat. I check the voltage on all contacts on the relays. The
Blues has 12 volts but there in one blue white that only shows about 7 volts and I can not find were it comes or goes.

When you press the UP button, do you hear the relays click? If not, I would suspect a faulty switch, a broken wire, or a poor connection at some point.

Trim & Tilt

With someone?s help push the up button, and someone help the motor go all the way up. Lock motor in that position, now fill reservoir, replace cap. Unlock and bush button to lower motor. Keep repeating until it does not take fluid. The unit should operate now. Dextron or power steering fluid.

Are you trying to raise the motor when it is already on the trailer lock? If so, the trim limit switch may prevent the tilt motor from running. It the engine is down, and the motor won't run in the up position, the wiring harness is likely bad, as Joe said.

Yes trying to raise motor when it is on the trailer lock. And does this both with the switch on the moter and the switch on the throttle. Can I check the limit switch? Where is it.

Thanks

The trim limit switch is on the tilt rod. Look for a black plastic collar.
