Hi! I have a 16 ft F/G boat with a 1974 merc 70 hp, I currently have a 12" prop, it seems quite sluggish from the start, but gets better once the boat plains out. Should I have a different pitch of prop? I don't know the rpm, as I don't have a gauge. However it doesn't seem to be running at a very high rpm.

Also how difficult (connections) would it be to install a tach & would an automotive one work?

thanks!

Re: help with prop/misc

It is really important to know more about your boat and setup to offer good advice.

Boat design, hull, weight (laden), overall shape and, most important, your rpm at wot.

Do not use automotive gear on your boat. Won't last, won't work, won't meet safety specs. (yes, agrred there may be a few exceptions, but...)

Check www.tinytach.com for an unexpensive solution.
